The Heart: Fu’aad, Qalb, and Sadr
I was collecting some feedback and someone said
“Lack of focus….. dil aur dmagh ki jang”
I was about to reply with it is not Mind it is Heart as in memory I was recalling the translation of Quran Verse “They have hearts with which they do not understand,”
And then I stop and think a little bit. If I say it is “Heart” then he/she will ask how as Science says it is “Brain” who do the thinking. And then I go deep to explore more about what is the real message ALLAH wants to give us.
Here I have to mention that I have heard somewhere that Arabic is the very vast language and have many meanings for the same word and that is why ALLAH has selected Arabic for Quran. So that curiosity also help me to do this research
I have listed down the process or way I have got clarity about these words and try to understand the message in it. Visit the links to read and watch the video for better understanding. Hopefully, it will help you.
1) سُوۡرَةُ الاٴعرَاف
( 7:179 )
https://hamariweb.com/islam/online-Quran/
( 7:179 ) And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are heedless.
2) In Islamic philosophy, the qalb (Arabic: قلب), or heart, is the origin of intentional activities, the cause behind all of the humans intuitive deeds. While the brain handles the physical impressions, qalb (the heart) is responsible for apprehending. … In the Quran, the word qalb is used more than 130 times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qalb
3) Does the heart think or brain? What does the Quran say?

5) Meaning of Qalb (heart), its Nature, its relationship with Ruh (Soul) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Frwbm-A6hx4&t=549s
6) In the Qur’an, Allah ta’ala uses three words to describe our hearts: qalb, fu’aad and sadr. We know that every Arabic word is chosen for a reason, yet all three of these words, for the most part, are translated as “heart.” As usual, the intricate meanings of these words are not captured in the translation. https://muslimmatters.org/…/…/the-heart-fuaad-qalb-and-sadr/
Hopefully, it was helpful for you too.
It also leads me to learn the Arabic language so that I am able to understand the Quran better. If you know any good resources for that, please do share it. JazakALLAH
May ALLAH give us all the will and strength to understand and follow the guidelines of Quran, Ameen
Remember in your prayers
